Transformations in Bloom

I love a big-impact project. When I walk onto a site, I can quickly see in my mind's eye what the end result should be. Most of us on the Gardens to Love team have the same talent and love for big-impact projects and the satisfaction of making that vision a reality for our clients. The before and after photos here show a project that came to Gardens to Love from a frustrated former client. Like so many properties in Atlanta, this townhouse garden had a drainage problem. The water flowed towards the house and under the paving. It was a disaster. In addition to the drainage issue, the brick walls were built at different times with brick that did not match.

Our team's first task was to remove the old paving and tackle the drainage issue. We regraded the area, installed larger drain pipes, and added underground catch basins. The patio floor was then rebuilt with beautiful bluestone, laid in an Ashlar pattern for a more visually pleasing look. We also designed and built low retaining walls for new planting beds, which double as seating for large groups.

The mismatched brick walls were next on our list. Considering the client's desire for a modern, light-filled home, we suggested lime-washing the old brick walls. The client agreed, and it gave her the lighter look and feel she wanted. The final touch to this project was the addition of plant materials. Now, this garden boasts a variety of greens and textures, offering visual interest all year round.
